2. Visiting this website

When you visit this website, the server automatically records technical data that your browser sends: IP address, date and time of access, the page or file requested, referrer, browser type and operating system. We use this data only to deliver the website, keep it secure and fix errors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is deleted after 7 days.

The website and the download server are hosted by OVH GmbH, Oskar-Jäger-Str. 173, 50825 Cologne, Germany, on a server located in Germany. OVH processes this data on our behalf as a data processor.

A copy of this website is also published on the Swarm network at bzz://freedombrowser.eth. When you open it there, it is loaded from Swarm peers and our server is not involved.

3. Downloads and updates

When you download Freedom, and when an installed copy of Freedom checks for updates, our download server receives your IP address. We use it to deliver the files and to produce aggregate statistics, such as the number of downloads and the countries they come from. We do not create profiles of individual users. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering and improving the software (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). IP addresses in the server logs are deleted after 7 days. For the statistics, IP addresses are only used in shortened or hashed form, and we keep only aggregate figures, not individual addresses.

4. Cookies, tracking and YouTube videos

This website itself does not use cookies, analytics or tracking tools. Apart from the videos described below, it loads no content from third parties.

Videos on the Talks page. The Talks page shows a still image hosted on our own server for each video; nothing is loaded from YouTube while you browse. Directly below the video, a notice tells you what happens when you click play and links to this section. Only when you click play is the video loaded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. From that moment Google receives your IP address and technical data from your browser, may store information on your device and may transfer data to Google LLC in the USA. The legal basis is your consent, given by clicking play: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR for the processing, and § 25(1) TDDDG for storing and reading information on your device. If you don't click play, no data is sent. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future by not playing further videos and deleting the site data YouTube stored in your browser. For transfers to Google LLC in the USA, Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision under Art. 45 GDPR on 10 July 2023. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
